Gas Cylinder Disposal Case Study: DRMS Guantanamo
Location: Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
Client: Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS)
Project Name: Guantanamo Bay Chlorine Cylinder Remediation
Project Summary:
SET was contracted by the DRMS branch of the Department of Defense to inspect and repackage chlorine cylinders located at the U.S. Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Several of these cylinders possessed corroded valves, including one that had leaked and was being temporarily secured with a Chlorine A Kit placed over the valve.
SET mobilized personnel, equipment and supplies to tap the cylinders with inoperable valves and repackaged the chlorine into DOT-specified portable ton containers. The containers were then shipped to the SET–Houston treatment storage and disposal facility for treatment/recycling.
