Rainwater Capture and Use
Water is our most precious natural resource. Billions of gallons a year are lost to runoff. Capturing this rainwater and reusing it is not only economical and environmentally sustainable, it is proving crucial to the future of our planet. Simple steps can be taken in all industries to ensure that we are making the most of the one thing that we cannot live without, water. Using methods such as rerouting gutter systems and installing rainwater capture tanks, companies are reducing the load on municipal sewer systems and reducing their bottom line.
SET Environmental, Inc. is dedicated to capturing and reusing rainwater at all of our office and facility locations. We have installed rainwater capture tanks in order to reduce runoff, ease the burden on municipal sewer systems, and conserve our most precious natural resource. Here are the facts:
- 1 inch of rain falling over 1 acre of area equals 27,154 gallons of water.
- An office building with a rooftop area of 10,400 square feet equals 0.24 acres and produces 6,516 gallons from a 1 inch rainfall.
- *In Illinois, the average annual rainfall equals 38.82 inches.
- The 10,400 square foot office building can capture and use approximately 252,951 gallons of rainwater per year.
The Sustainable Practices Division at SET Environmental, Inc. can design and implement any size rainwater capture and reuse system. From 330 gallon collection tanks to large stormwater detention ponds, any size facility can benefit from this sustainable practice.
